Mark Salyers
2003 Ford SVT Focus
I purchased my Focus in 2004. A friend suggested that I come out and try Autocross. At the time, I hadn’t heard of Autocross and didn’t know what to expect. My first time out, I had a great time. I got a good feel of what my car was capable of and met a lot of great people.
I enjoy the fact that it’s not a cut-throat competition. At the end of an event, I’m happy if I better my time with each run. I like the fact that there is always someone that is willing to suggest a better setup for your car or ways to better your time.
At this point, my car is mostly stock. I have added a front strut brace, a ram air intake, lowering springs and increased my rear sway bar from 21mm to 25mm. My next big plans to upgrade are 16” wheels with DOT race tires and a light weight fly wheel. Since I also compete in car shows, the rest of the modifications to my car are cosmetic.
As I plan to continue to compete in Autocross, I will eventually get a car to use as a dedicated track car. I hope to see the club continue to grow. At the first event this year, I was surprised to see about ten more entries then we averaged last season. I look forward to many more events and meeting many more friendly fellow racers.
