A Message from your President.
I hope everyone had a great time. We tried some new things and tried to remember some old things. Saturday saw some 60 drivers come out for a day of practice. That has been our largest turn out of ACCO’s young life. Drivers got a chance to revive their driving skills or for some just to learn about autocrossing.
Following practice we did an experiment, we had an Alternative autocross or style autox. Basicly there was not times for the run but points for style as you hung out the back end. This was one of our first attempts to bring out the teens to our events. We had 20 drivers that participated in both the practice and alternative autox and 3 that only did the alternative. That appears to have met our goal as the majority learned about autocrossing. We have not had our meeting yet so not sure if we will be pursuing further alternative events.
Speaking of different types of events I have had a number of people asking about a Rally, Rally-x and tours. If we have enough members that are interested in these types of events come to our meetings and lets talk. What we would need are people to step forward to organize and run these events.
Now for our first official event of the 2004 season we had a great turn out, some 58 drivers participated. If you were at our events last year the course might have looked familiar to you. The course was tight for anything bigger than a rabbit or fiesta. Everyone had a good time and hopefully no one got discouraged. Some drivers even got permission from their better half to purchase some more goodies. There was one Rabbit that felt to the passengers that they were scrapping the door handles off. But large smiles were had by them all.
As has been typical for our events we finished with plenty of time for fun runs. Those that stuck around, some 40 of you were given some relief as the course was opened up. Times improved by 3 – 6 seconds. Smiles could be seen through the helmets as speed once again let out the race drive in us all.
With the size of the turn out we had can be any indication of our next events we will stick to our plan of having a lunch break. Once we are assured that we can continually expect 60 plus drivers at the events we will even implement a morning and afternoon session. There will be plenty of notice when we do this. How this will work will be certain category of cars will be scheduled for a morning session. They will be broken into two heats and one will work while one runs. We will then switch. Then you will be free to leave and mow the lawn. In the afternoon the other categories will do the same.
I would like to think everyone for their patience and help. Without this our events would not be so nice and fun. When you see our key workers (Comp, Tech, and Registration Directors) give them a big thanks.
Until May 22 have fun getting chores caught up.
