Drake Park Car Show

Last month ACCO participated in the Flashback Cruz car show in Drake Park, giving the club exposure to the thousands of motorheads that attend this fabulous show.  Two members, Curt Hagner and Jim "Gator" Hudson, provided cars for the ACCO display and assisted by Jack Gassaway and Jim Kell, set up a mini autocross course for kids to run through.  As each kid ran through the course, their times were recorded by our timing equipment and displayed on the reader board for all to see.

Several kids spent hours trying to better their times and defeat their friends.  Without a doubt a whole new generation of future autocrossers were hooked by the fun and excitement of competition.

ACCO's Drake Park Mini Autocross Course

Curt Hagner brought brother Tim's 1984 Porsche Carrera for display.  The beautiful red Porsche has nearly a quarter of a million miles on the clock, yet looks as pristine as the day it was delivered!  Gator Hudson brought his Victory Red 2009 Corvette Z06 to the party.  Both cars received a lot of attention from the crowd.

Curt Hagner, left and Gator Hudson, right, greet the crowds.

Shown below, Gator stands in front of the reader board, after one of the young folks recorded a sizzling 10.449 second run through the course.  Jack brought along a laptop and a video display so we could have a continuous loop of autocross videos running for the crowd's enjoyment.  In the background a couple strolls through the course, unaware that they are holding up the racers.  Next year we will use the yellow rope to close off the area.

A big thanks to Gator, who came up with the idea of the mini-course, and to Curt, Jack and Jim for helping it become a reality.

August Events 8 and 9

Mother nature conspired to thwart us again for the August events.  A cold snap and a bit of rain settled in, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm of 32 drivers on Saturday and 29 on Sunday.  Top time on Saturday was grabbed by Sean Glaab in his 125 shifter cart followed closely by Marvin Wodtli in his 2008 Corvette powered Pontiac Solstice.  On Sunday, Nathan Korsted took top time with his modified 1984 VW Rabbit.  Second fasted time was recorded by David Halladey in his prepared 1989 Honda CRX.

September Events 9 and 10

Coming up are Events 9 and 10 on September 11th and 12th at the Hoodoo Mountain Ski resort.  Competition is expected to be intense as this will be the last chance for drivers to earn points for the 2010 Season Championships.  Drivers can elect to race either a full day or half a day. The cost is the same for both options.

Dry camping is available at Hoodoo as are restrooms and showers (bring quarters for the showers). Camping and hotels are available at other nearby locations. Please visit the club's website ( http://www.autoxclub.org ) for details.  The mosquito activity has dropped way off, but it is a good idea to stock up on mosquito repellent, just in case.

Attention OSI fans!

Big changes are in store for the Oregon Shootout Invitational (OSI). Due to uncertain weather conditions at Hoodoo in October, the club is moving the event to July. The first July OSI will take place in July 2011. Invitations to participate will be based on the 2010 season championship standings for the participating clubs. Since there will be no OSI held this year as a result of this change, ACCO has decided to host a free event at Hoodoo this October 9th and 10th for anyone who wishes to participate. This event will go forward regardless of weather conditions. Sorry, no studded tires allowed!
